TARRYTOWN, N.Y., May 14, 2008 — Brian Wieler, who boasts experience in some of New York City’s finest restaurants, has been named executive chef at Tarrytown House Estate and Conference Center, a Destination Hotels & Resorts property situated on the scenic bluffs above the Hudson River in White Plains, New York, just 20 miles north of Manhattan.

A 20-year veteran of the restaurant industry, Wieler previously was with the W Hotel’s Icon Restaurant in New York City, where as executive chef he captured the spirit of innovative dining with a unique blend of contemporary American cuisine infused with Mediterranean and Asian influences. He further perfected his culinary craft as executive chef at Layla, a Mediterranean restaurant in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood, which was featured on an episode of “Sex in the City,” and as chef de cuisine as part of Michel Nischan’s opening team at the W Hotel’s Heartbeat restaurant.

Most recently, Wieler, who began his new duties at this White Plains hotel on April 14, held the executive chef position at Ardsley Country Club, an exclusive country club in Ardsley on Hudson in Westchester County, New York.

While consulting with the New York-based Myriad Restaurant Group — celebrated restaurateur Drew Nieporent’s collection of trendy dining establishments, including Tribeca Grill, Montrachet and Nobu in New York and Rubicon in San Francisco — Wieler helped play key roles in high-profile special events, including a dinner for the Dalai Lama during his visit to New York City in 1999, the MTV Music Awards Party, the Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Wine Auction, Hill County Food & Wine Festival (Austin, Texas) and Julia Child’s 80th birthday party.

He is actively involved in culinary charities such as City Harvest, The International Taste of Tennis and the Taste of the NFL (Party with a Purpose). He also has made numerous appearances on The Food Network and was profiled on WCBS-TV’s “Chef on a Shoestring.”

Wieler graduated first in his class from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, located within the Hudson Valley, in Hyde Park, New York.

The Wieler hiring comes on the heels of Tarrytown’s announcement earlier this month that restoration of its 19th Century tavern is nearing completion. The renovated facility, which offers a contemporary twist on classic tavern favorites, will be known as “Cellar 49 – A Tavern at the Mansion.”

Tarrytown House Estate and Conference Center is the perfect place to experience the traditional pleasures of the majestic Hudson Valley in Upstate New York, while enjoying gracious accommodations, gardens and resort amenities, all within an easy ride of New York City. The first and one of the foremost executive conference centers in the U.S., Tarrytown House features 212 guest rooms and an array of recreational options, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, two tennis courts and a fully equipped fitness center, sauna and whirlpool. Massage and spa treatments are available by appointment.
