The 2009 prize for "Best Idea for an Existing Business" has been awarded to Karen Parry, President and General Manager of Furniture Gourmet, Inc. by the Edward Jones Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, in Springfield, Missouri. The $500 cash prize was awarded to one existing business for ideas submitted for the Women's Entrepreneurship Symposium held at Drury University.

Furniture Gourmet, Inc. is an internet Home Decor retailer headquartered in Springfield, Missouri, founded by Karen Parry in 2002. The company features smaller home accents and artificial fruits and vegetables on their shopping website www.furnituregourmet.com
Their winning submission detailed the company's plans to respond to the economic downturn by offering more services to site visitors and customers, such as providing interactive idea-sharing and professional interior design advice.

"With over 65 women-owned businesses in attendance at the Women's Entrepreneurship Symposium, the competition for "Best Existing Business Idea" was intense. The ideas submitted were outstanding, making the win by Furniture Gourmet quite impressive," said Dawn Hiles, Executive Director, Edward Jones Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Drury University, Springfield, MO.
