Scientists Focused on Small Things Win Big With EPA

August 25, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
MVA Scientific Consultants, the Leader in the Science of Small Things, has been awarded 4 contracts totaling over $200,000 from the Environmental Protection Agency through Environmental Quality Management of Cincinnati. The contracts call for the Atlanta-based Firm to provide research and analytical support for the EPA’s mission to monitor and control hazardous substances, according to James R. Millette, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist and Executive Director at MVA Scientific Consultants.

“EPA has identified research needs in the areas of soil analysis, choice of filter media, air suspension of dust and soil particles, and alternative demolition practices for asbestos-containing buildings” says Dr. Millette. “We are pleased to help EPA fill the scientific information gaps in these areas,” Millette added.

The recent win is a major coup for the Firm and comes after an aggressive year of marketing, instrument upgrades, personnel additions and new facilities. “We have worked with the EPA on many projects in the past, ” says The Firm’s Managing Director Tim Vander Wood, Ph.D. "We are extremely excited about this recent opportunity and appreciate their continued confidence in our expertise in the area of Environmental Microscopy,” says Vander Wood.

MVA Scientific Consultants has a long-standing tradition as an authority in research and methods development in the area of hazardous particulates. As experts in this area, the Firm has helped to develop important research tools related to asbestos, lead, stack emissions and WTC Dust – the designation for the particulate matter resulting from the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.
