CENTURY CITY FILM FESTIVAL TO OPEN WITH A BANG Count Down to the Century City Film Festival

CENTURY CITY, CA., OCTOBER 1, 2004. The first annual Century City Film Festival will host the west cost premiere of Dry County Films "Lighting Bug' Written, Directed, and Produced by Robert Hall.

"Lightning Bug" is the story of a young boy growing up poor and misunderstood in the rural South. He dreams of escaping by becoming a special effects make-up artist in Hollywood. In the tiny bedroom of his rundown mobile home, he teaches himself how to create his favorite horror movie characters but the real monster is down the hall, drinking at the kitchen table, waiting for the next victim. This movie was based on actual events.

Lighting Bug stars Brett Harrison as Green Graves, the misunderstood young man who escapes the harsh brutality of the world around him in the blood and gore of horror movies. Through horror movies and slasher films Green Graves discovers his unique talent of recreating with striking accuracy his favorite monsters from film Harrison is best known for his work on the television show "Grounded for Life." Brett Harrison has also starred in the feature film "Orange County' with Colin Hanks and Jack Black, and has guest starred on primetime series including "Boston Public", "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit', and most recently "The OC".


Laura Prepon who portrays Angevin Duvet, the smart, beautiful, rebellious horror-film junkie and love interest of Green Graves, in Lightning Bug. Prepon stars on the FOX hit sitcom "That 70s Show' as Donna, the girl next door who is suddenly sparking the interest of her life-long best friend Eric. Prepon severed as an executive producer.


Over the past several years, Robert Hall has become one of the most prominent special effects makeup artists in Hollywood. In 1996, Hall founded Almost Human, a special effects studio whose creations are featured weekly on WB's "Angel."

His company also created the special effects on the last two seasons of the hit UPN series, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Robert has worked on over 40 feature films including "Secretary," "Die Mommie Die" (as Associate Producer), "Deuce Bigalow 2: European Gigolo" and "The X Files: The Movie." In addition, Hall has directed music videos for Josh Todd, and co-directed a documentary hosted by AdamWest. "Lightning Bug' marks Halls feature writing and directorial debut. Lighting Bug also stars Hal Sparks (Queer As Folk), Kevin Gage (Heat) Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser), and Donald Gibb (Revenge Of the Nerds)

Lighting Bug will premiere at the Century City Film Festival on October 27, 2004. The Century City Film Festival was founded by Patrice Williams, Director of the festival, and CEO and founder of The Minorities in Broadcasting Training Program, the charity the festival will support.

The Minorities in Broadcasting Training Program was formed in 1992 to provide training opportunities to minority college graduates in television and radio news reporting, news management and film production.
