Crime Prevention Products Advises on the Ease of Stopping Forgery Crime

With news stories like the November 2006 scandal where a family run organised crime operation forged and released £14 million counterfeit bills into the UK economy and the more recent case in August where fake £20 noted were found to be widely circulating throughout the country, the UK government has issued warnings for all businesses to check for forgeries on received cash. Unfortunately the advancement of technology makes it simpler than ever to forge money – for this reason security providers such as Crime Prevention Products advise both large and small companies to invest in forgery detection methods as a matter of course rather than as something to consider.

The good news is that forgery detection measures are easy to use and inexpensive. A Counterfeit Money Pen sells for as little as £1.30 and has a shelf life of approximately one year. The way these effective products work couldn't be simpler – when receiving cash, staff need only make a small mark on the notes. If the colour is yellow or clear, the cash is sound. If however the colour of the mark turns brown or grey, there is a good chance the notes are forged.

Counterfeit cash is not only big business for organised crime - technology makes it easy for even a teenager to print fake notes at home using a standard printer. While these types of criminals are not printing millions worth of cash, they cause damage to small businesses by handing over fake notes and then receiving real cash as change. They tend to target busy establishments with long queues where busy staff has little time to check the authenticity of cash. Forgery detection methods such as the Counterfeit Money Pen which requires a mere second to mark cash are an effective and simple way to prevent this. And since banks refuse to compensate businesses for forged notes, easy detection of counterfeits is crucial.

Terry Rattee, owner of Crime Prevention Products comments, 'Forgery on a large scale seriously damages the national currency which affects all of us. But let us not forget that forgery on a small scale where criminals are handing over fake cash for real change has a cumulative affect that does just as much damage in the long run. With easy and cheap detection products such as the Money Pen, we can all do our part in making sure fake notes are identified rather than slipped into circulation.'

While large banks and other financial organisations use added methods to detect counterfeits since they are more vulnerable to criminals with more sophisticated means of forgeries, the Money Pen works most effectively against lesser criminals who target small businesses to exchange their amateur forgeries for real cash. The reason for this is that this type of detection product works best on notes printed using standard printer or photocopier paper which contains starches that cause the iodine based ink of the pen to react by turning a darker colour. Genuine notes on the other hand are printed on paper made from cotton fibres and do not cause the iodine to react.

Terry Rattee of Crime Prevention Products adds, 'While it's now easy for any dimwit to print out some fake notes at home, the Counterfeit Money Pen makes it even easier to spot them.'

About CPP

Crime Prevention Products was formed in 1992 initially to deal directly with Crime Prevention Police Officers throughout the country. As the business built up it became obvious that there was a need on the internet for the same products and so we went live online in 2001 and have never looked back, going from strength to strength.

We are now one of the largest Mail Order providers of crime prevention products in the UK and are the preferred suppliers for the National Health Service - Local Authorities - Police - Home Office - Foreign Office - MOD and many blue chip companies as well as providing safety items to the general public. Because we offer free advice (our MD Terry Rattee is an ex detective) many of our sales are repeat buyers coming back or new customers who contact us on recommendation from others.

We don't believe in simply selling a product but in selling the right product to solve the problem, and if we can't do that, we tell you.
