Week of September 5, 2005 from Duke University – Durham, NC

Spark Kindle Ignite at http://kindleaction.blogspot.com has been in the planning for several months now. The title refers to a philosophy of student activism developed at Duke University by a group of students in the fall of 2004.

Each week you can anticipate and elaboration of that philosphy and a feature example of outstanding student activism from somewhere in the world (some weeks there may be several). This week's story was inspiring enough to warrant not only an early blog premiere, but what are sure to be a litany of news articles across the country. It is a heroic tale of three students who saw a time for action and went to save lives in New Orleans.

Exlusive commentary from the Sonny Bird, one of the student heroes, can be found on the site.

“How were 25,000 people supposedly trapped for 5 days with no food, water, or assistance in a place WHERE WE COULD JUST DRIVE RIGHT UP TO IN A 2 wheel drive hyundai.” –Sonny Bird

This is a human interest story of the highest caliber – one of heroes who chose to beg forgiveness over asking permission. The story is as American as it’s appeal is universal.
