LateRooms.com can announce that Berlin's annual run offers visitors and locals an unusual way to end the year.

Participants can choose to negotiate the course in fancy dress, with the incentive that the best costumes receive a prize.

Anyone staying in Berlin hotels and not feeling quite so energetic can always watch the streams of witches, bears and Mexicans take to the streets from the comfort of one of the city's many bars or cafes.

There are two different courses for adults to race, one 6.3 km long and the other 9.9 km for those who are a little more ambitious.

Entry into the event costs €10 (£9) and registrations have to be filled in before December 11th, either online or by post.

Runners can also register on the day; however, it costs €15 as opposed to €10.

There are also shorter courses for children and teenagers to enjoy the fun.

It starts and ends in Mommsen Stadium in the west of the capital. On reaching the finishing line, runners can warm up with a hot cup of gluhwein and enjoy traditional German pancakes to build up their strength.

If you're heading to the Berlin run this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotels Berlin as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.

Previous years have seen more than 2,500 runners turn out to brave Berlin's cold and complete the course. This will be the 34th year that the race has been held.
