LateRooms.com can announce that people staying at hotels in Madrid who are keen to take in a show and experience something spectacular during their time in the city may be pleased to hear about a performance taking place at the beginning of next year.

On January the 1st and 2nd 2010, Ben Hur Live will be showing at the Palacioa de Deportes for what is billed by the creators as a spectacle full of "dramatic chariot races, proud gladiators, glorious galleys, deep emotions and a great message of peace".

More than 400 performers and 100 animals are used in the production, which took 15 years to create and coincides with the 50-year anniversary of the film.

It is based on the novel Ben Hur – A Tale of Christ by Lew Wallace and any people who choose to watch it will be treated to a stunning array of lights, music, pyrotechnic effects and plenty of drama.

The highlight of the show is a chariot race around the arena, for which 12 horses underwent a year of intensive training.

Tickets for the show cost between €25 (£22.7) and €110, with performances kicking off at 9pm. A special matinee performance is scheduled for December 2nd and will begin at 4pm.

Released in 1959, the film version of Ben Hur starred Charlton Heston and won 11 Oscars.

Commenting on Ben Hur Live, Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, said: "We strongly urge people thinking of going to Ben Hur Live and who need hoteles en Madrid to book early to avoid disappointment"
