Motorcycle Noise Regulation Now More Dogmatic

October 14, 2005 – With the implementation of the motorcycle noise regulation, it is expected that more violators will be arrested. Said regulation directs the State Patrol to teach the local officers on how they will be able to identify illegal exhaust system.
Motorcycle riders with exhausts louder than 60 decibels and are considered illegal are to be arrested by the State Patrol and local officers. With this kind of regulation, the authorities are expecting to catch ten times better than catching them after the act has already been committed or is said to be consummated.
The University of Florida has recently conducted an informal survey involving thirty-three (33) motorcycles. Said study is commenced by the University’s audiologists. The latter found out that nearly half of the motorcycle exhausts produced sounds above 100 decibels when throttled up. The equivalent of this sound is a rock concert or a jarring chainsaw. Exposure to this kind of noise is will only be safe in just a matter of 15 minutes more than that will be detrimental. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, exposure to any noise measuring 85 decibels or more can cause permanent hearing loss.
The motorcyclists can have their motorcycle exhausts checked by the local Police or the Sheriff's Department if they think their noise range is dubitable.
