December 26, 2009 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News can announce that tennis fans who are planning trips to Sydney in the new year may be excited to hear about the Medibank International tournament due to be held in January.

Players including Lleyton Hewitt, Marcos Baghdatis and Serena Williams have all confirmed that they will appear at the competition.

For people staying in Sydney hotels, it is a good opportunity to assess some of the world's best players ahead of the Australian Open, which begins a week later.

The Medibank International takes place from January 10th to 16th at the Olympic Park Tennis Centre and promises to showcase some of the game's best talent.

Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who has won the event four times, is certain to be a favourite with the crowd in the men's tournament.

Meanwhile, the women's draw features some of the game's hardest hitters, with Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic ready to battle it out on court.

The latest addition to the line up is Justine Henin. She announced today (December 21st) that she intends to play in Sydney as part of her comeback to professional tennis following a year-long break from the game.

Ms Henin has won the event three times previously and was provided with a wildcard entry.

Tickets for the opening rounds start from AU$9.90 (£5.43).
