Cancer Recovery Foundation Providing Housing To Hurricane Katrina Victims

With the far-reaching extent of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina becoming clear, Cancer Recovery Foundation of America has committed to providing help and housing to cancer patients and their families who have been displaced.

“We have thousands of patients and family members,” said Greg Anderson, founder of Cancer Recovery Foundation, “who are dealing with dual devastation, cancer and the hurricane.”

Cancer Recovery Foundation has received three manufactured homes to set up for cancer patients of the Gulf Region. The homes were donated by Lebanon Valley Mobile Homes of Palmyra, PA. They will be transported by three volunteer professional drivers with the support of Pinnacle Transport Systems of Selingsrove, PA.

Once the appropriate location has been established, Pinnacle will move the donated mobile homes and families affected with cancer will be identified to move in.

“These will be reserved exclusively for people who have lost their home in the hurricane and have an immediate family member currently undergoing cancer
treatment,” said Anderson.

“We need to get cancer patients near treatment and keep them near their families at the same time,” said Roy Jones, Vice President of Development for Cancer Recovery Foundation. “These three mobile homes are only the beginning. With the help of others in the mobile home and transportation industries, we hope to make a significant impact on the lives of people with cancer in the Gulf Region,” he added.

It is estimated that over 2,000 families who are going through cancer have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. These include patients who have just received a cancer diagnosis and don’t know where to turn for treatment, patients who have recently had surgery and need wound care, cancer patients who have been forced to stop treatment and do not know where to turn, patients who cannot access a pharmacy for medications, as well as cancer patients who have lost their medical records and now must begin the gruesome testing process once again.

“We are dedicated to helping every patient we can,” said Anderson. “Please pray for these people. And please partner with us to help make this happen”
