Last week as Travel Weekly honored many travel industry leaders with its annual Reader's Choice Awards, the Globus family of brands valued one tribute above all others: "Lifetime Achievement" recognition of the company's former president and CEO and current chairman, Phillip Gordon.

Phillip Gordon's life has revolved around traveling. He spent his youth in a number of different countries, experiencing foreign cultures and languages and made a career out of it, helping consumers experience the world. During Gordon's journey through the travel industry, more than 30 years have been spent with the Globus family of brands. In 2004, he was named president and chief executive officer of the company and in 2009, Gordon became its chairman.

Surrounded by his family his wife Marianne and daughters, Rachel and Stephanie, as well as his executive team from Globus Phillip accepted his award.

"For 30 years, I've been priveleged to take part in the travel industry, working with wonderful people while helping helping travelers experience the world," said Gordon. "It was an honor to be recognized with Travel Weekly's Lifetime Achievement Award and join a distinguished group of recipients."

Each year, Travel Weekly chooses an individual whose efforts led to extraordinary results within an enterprise and who has also made significant contributions to the industry as a whole for the distinct Lifetime Achievement Award. According to this leading travel trade publication, the legacy of the recipients to receive this award collectively defines the environment that the travel industry operates in today and provides a vision and accomplishment of tomorrow's leaders. Phillip Gordon is the 18th recipient of the award.

"Phillip led the Globus family of brands into exciting, unchartered territory," said Scott Nisbet, president and CEO for the Globus family of brands. "He helped us grow from a tour company with an 80-year history into an industry leader offering travelers tours through Globus and Cosmos, small ship cruising via Avalon Waterways and independent vacations with Monograms. And, he did all of this while leading our teams with a superior combination of passion, strategy and kindness."

In addition to Gordon's Lifetime Achievement Award, Globus also took home top honors as Best Tour Operator Europe.
