LateRooms.com can announce that film buffs and movie stars can rub shoulders in the German capital in February as the Berlinale rolls out the red carpet.

The annual film festival is one of Europe's most important events and will showcase the latest international releases alongside low-budget and unknown productions.

People staying in accommodation in Berlin in February may want to take in one of the 400 films that are shown each year at the festival, which runs from February 11th to 21st.

Venues around the city will be screening a selection of films, with a full programme of events due to be published at the beginning of next month.

This year promises to be particularly spectacular as the Berlinale celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Each year, 26 films are entered into the competition section of the programme, where movies, actors and directors compete for the coveted Golden and Silver Bears.

Confirmed entrants for the category so far include Shutter Island - directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo Di Caprio, Sir Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo - and Der Räuber from German director Benjamin Heisenberg.

Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for the Berlinale is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hotels Berlin as early as possible."
