AsiaRooms.com can announce that some of the biggest stars in women's tennis will be heading to Pattaya for a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event next month.

The PTT Pattaya Open has featured on the international tennis schedule since 1991 and remains a highly popular event among both players and people staying in Pattaya hotels.

Bringing 48 of the world's leading female players to Thailand, this year's tournament takes place at the Dusit Thani Hotel from February 8th to 14th.

Several improvements were made to the tennis venue last year, with two new grandstands built for spectators and a fourth practice court added to the facilities.

According to organiser Pentangle Promotions, this year's event will also feature a number of upgrades, with three match courts benefiting from additional spotlighting and new roofing installed on the grandstands.

Commenting on the appeal of the PTT Pattaya Open, the company explains: "It is one of the few tournaments to be staged in a beach resort environment and the only one where the courts are sited next to the sea."

Vera Zvonareva of Russia will be returning to defend her title this year, while Germany's rising young star Sabine Lisicki is also expected to play in Pattaya.

Other players set for a stay in Thailand hotels next month include Jelena Dokic, Anna Chakvetadze and Japanese veteran Kimiko Date Krumm.

First-round matches begin on Monday February 8th and ticket prices start at 300 baht (£5.50)
