AsiaRooms.com highlights attending a full moon party is likely to be on the itinerary of anyone spending time in Koh Samui hotels.

Although versions of this event can now be found at resorts across Thailand, the original and largest full moon party takes place on Koh Pha Ngan.

Located to the north of Koh Samui, the island welcomes up to 30,000 people each month to celebrate the beauty of the full moon with a huge party.

On the evening of the full moon, the beach at Had Rin is lined with tables and small lamps, while jugglers and fire-eaters practise their tricks.

As soon as the moon appears over the beach, the resort comes alive with party-goers dancing to a eclectic range of music provided by local DJs.

Measures have recently been taken to clamp down on the use of illegal drugs at the full moon party, in an effort to make the event more family-friendly.

Local police have set up checkpoints on both Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Samui to identify drug dealers and keep people staying in Thailand hotels safe, the Bangkok Post reported.

Full moon parties are scheduled to take place on March 1st and 30th this year.
