LateRooms.com can reveal that film fanatics looking for a new cinematic experience may want to book accommodation in Barcelona and see what one event has to offer.

Mecal – the Barcelona International Film Festival, will take place from April 9th until 18th.

This is the 12th time the spectacle has taken place and so far, more than 3,500 short films have been submitted – 25 per cent more than on previous occasions.

Tickets for the whole event cost €15 (£13) and can be picked up in advance, while passes for a single day are priced at €4.

Several locations in Spain's second largest city are taking part in the film festival, including Cines Malda, Institut Frances, Espai Cultural Caja Madrid de Barcelona and Lounge Club Mau Mau, which is located near Sala Apolo – Barcelona's principle music venue.

The competitive aspect of the event is split into three sections that participants can enter – international, obliqua and documentary.

Similarly, there are several other divisions of Mecal which display a selection of short films based on different subjects, including vampires, UFOs and the OK Computer category, which features productions realised with motion graphics technology.

Mau Mau is often used as a pre-gig or pre-club venue and according to its official website, "a sophisticated feel now enlivens its interior with striking graphics and myriad projections decorating the walls".

Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for Mecal is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hoteles en Barcelona as early as possible."
