AsiaRooms.com highlights publishers, booksellers and readers will be heading to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre for the Bangkok International Book Fair (IBF) next month.

Taking place from March 26th to April 6th, the IBF is one of the biggest annual events on the publishing calendar in south-east Asia.

Last year's fair featured over 420 exhibitors and approximately 1.5 million visitors, with reading materials from 19 different countries on display.

The slogan for this year's event is Open a Book: Open the World, which is designed to convey the idea of books as a gateway to fantasy and imagination, as well as facts and information.

Organised by the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand, the fair offers free admission to the general public.

People staying in Bangkok hotels during the 12 days of the IBF can expect to find books to suit every taste at the Queen Sirikit centre, which was Thailand's first purpose-built convention venue.

Located in Rachadapisek Road, the building is close to a Skytrain station, making it easily accessible for people using Sukhumvit hotels.

It was inaugurated for the 46th World Bank/International Monetary Fund meetings in 1991.

Since then, the centre has hosted a large number of major international events, including the Miss Universe pageant, the Asia - Europe Meeting of 1996 and the United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in 2005.
