The family of a lost dog that has been found after five months said they never gave up trying to find him.

Bailey is a German Shepherd who disappeared from his backyard in San Jose, CA on August 11th 2009.

According to John Ramos, he had already bought a replacement pooch because the family was so depressed by Bailey's disappearance.

But they never stopped believing that he would return. They tried dozens of lost pet resources and websites including PetAmberAlert.com

Eventually, Bailey was handed into an SPCA shelter facility and, the owners were traced thanks to a PetAmberAlert poster which was posted on the bulletin board for weeks earlier.

"You dream that you might have a happy ending but a part of you doesn't really expect it, however never giving up hope is the key.

"I want to thank our friends, all the lost pet resources, websites and especially PetAmberAlert," Mr Ramos added.

The dog is getting along great with his new sister, Lily, who is 19 months old.
