AsiaRooms.com can announce that movie lovers booking accommodation in Singapore will be looking forward to the city-state's annual celebration of independent cinema.

The 23rd Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) is due to take place at venues around the city from April 15th to 24th.

Despite its name, the festival is committed to showcasing the work of emerging local film-makers and usually focuses on developments in the Asian movie industry.

One of the key elements of the festival programme is the presentation of the Silver Screen Awards, which reward outstanding achievements in three categories.

The Asian Film Competition, the Singapore Short Film Competition and the Singapore Film Awards are all keenly contested and should provide plenty of excitement for people attending the festival.

Tickets are due to go on sale in mid-March and SIFF events will be individually priced.

As well as the awards, movie fans can look forward to various retrospectives, director tributes and special digital cinema events.

SIFF venues include the screening room at the Arts House, a former government building that became a "multidisciplinary arts centre" in 2004.

The building recently hosted La Vida - the fifth edition of the Spanish Film Festival.
