LateRooms.com divulges the Mecal International Short Film Festival should see countless movie fans travel to Barcelona from all over the world for what is now seen as a prestigious and well-established event.

This year is the 12th edition of the competition, which will go on from April 9th to 18th and showcase some of the best short films of the year for the many cinema enthusiasts staying at Barcelona hotels during that time.

"Mecal maintains its position at the same time that it evolves, as always, looking for the best and more innovative in the field of short films," explained the festival's official website.

It claimed that more than 3,500 videos were sent in to the organisers, with filmmakers competing for industry prizes decided by professionals, as well as the increased exposure that the event offers.

There are three official sections to the festival - with International showing global fiction and animation shorts, Obliqua concentrating on the most innovative creations and Documentary dedicated to non-fiction.

Tickets cost €4 (£3.61) for each session and can be purchased on the door.
