AsiaRooms.com reports holidaymakers planning a stay in hotels in Koh Samui this May and June might want to take in the sights and sounds of the annual regatta.

Founded in 2001, the Samui Regatta attracts boats from Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore and is the last stop on the Asian Yachting Grand Prix series.

Hailed as a major tourist event, the regatta also aims to increase awareness of the sport of sailing in Asia and support activities and education for youth on the island.

Aside from the regatta, the week offers plenty of activities and events for tourists with a range of interests.

The Samui Jazz Festival is set to bring music to the beach during the event, while the biggest international fitness camp in Asia is set to take place before the regatta begins.

Golf enthusiasts can register to take part in a public tournament during the week by booking directly with the Santiburi Samui Country Club, with a trophy and other prizes available for the winner.

Last year's Samui Regatta saw a total of 350 participants, generating millions of baht for the Thai economy.

This year's event will take place between May 31st and June 1st.
