AsiaRooms.com divulges people who have booked accommodation in Hanoi in June should try and attend the Ham Long Pagoda Festival in the city.

This religious festival is a good opportunity for visitors in Vietnam to get under the skin of the country and its culture.

Taking place on June 26th, or the 15th day of the fifth lunar month in the lunar calendar, locals will head to the Thuy Phuong Commune to celebrate the event.

Anyone who is interested in the event will be able to find the temple in the Tu Liem district of Hanoi.

The Ham Long Pagoda Festival pays tribute to Buddha and Ly Ong Trong, who were charged with controlling the floods on the Red River centuries ago.

According to legend, Ly Ong Trong was selected as the King's envoy in 221 BC and was sent abroad to aid with the war against the Hung No aggressors.

The festival is characterised by a procession, which is followed by a ceremony to worship Buddha and to pray for the peace of the soul of Saint Chem and his wife, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism notes.

Visitors to Hanoi will discover that the Thuy Phuong Commune hosts several religious ceremonies throughout the year, including the Chem Temple Festival, which is usually held one month earlier.
