MYSTIC, CT – Forty years have brought a lot of changes to Acme Wire Products Co. Inc., but the Mystic, CT-based custom wireform manufacturer has stayed true to its basic mission:

Providing its customers with engineered wire products that best suit their fabrication needs.

Edward J. Planeta started Acme Wire Products in 1970 to provide the growing printer and computer industries with custom engineered wire products. Since then, the company has expanded its focus to include precision wireform and metal solutions.

Target markets include premise wiring accessories, hospital, dental and medical equipment, foodservice components and food processing equipment, robotic handling carriers and racks, as well as protective athletic equipment.

Other changes over the past 40 years include global sales expansion, technological advances, the addition of robotic equipment and the introduction of in-house sheet metal, assembly and other operations to add value to customers' wireform projects.

The company plans a variety of activities throughout 2010 to celebrate its 40th anniversary, President Mary Fitzgerald said. One event will be a facility tour in September, provided for members of the Wire Fabricators Association, the premier industry organization for wire fabricators, she said. Acme Wire Products will also be featured in a compilation of award winning Connecticut based Family Businesses produced by the UCONN Family Business Program.

As for the future, Fitzgerald said she's looking forward to the continued return of business from overseas plants back to the U.S. and a corresponding expansion of the types and numbers of wireform projects that the company works on. Acme Wire Products strives to be the best solution for their customers' wire fabrication needs.
