AsiaRooms.com - Visit an International Wax Sculpture exhibition on a stay in Pattaya

AsiaRooms.com reports people who have booked hotels in Pattaya during July could enjoy taking a trip to Ubon Ratchathani to the east of the seaside resort.

This is because throughout July the city will be hosting its International Wax Sculpture event.

A variety of activities will take place during the course of the month, including a parade of some of the wax sculptures that have been prepared.

For those who want to see the religious side of the festival, it could be a good idea to attend the Khao Phansa Buddhist ceremony.

The idea behind the candle festival is to help the monks as they prepare for their retreat to the temples during the period of Buddhist lent or Phansa.

There is also a special ceremony to welcome the arrival of the king's royal candle.

In another part of the festival, international participants compete in a candle carving competition, with many of them producing elaborate and intricate sculptures from wax.

Many of the sculptures are the size of carnival floats and are paraded around the local town, along with dancing and music.

Locals and monks get involved in the carving of the giant blocks of beeswax well ahead of the event itself, so anyone staying in hotels in Thailand before the festival begins may be able to catch a glimpse of some of the stunning sculptures.

For more information on this event visit the Tourism Authority of Thailand website or call the local organisers on +66 4524 3770-1.
