Holiday Velvet has last minute availability for Sonar 2010

Sonar 2010 takes place for June 17th-19th.In 2009 over 75,000 people visited the event, making Barcelona accommodation hard to find, particularly in budget and mid-range hotels.

Many choose to visit Sonar with friends, making Barcelona self-catering apartments a good option. Holiday Velvet, a holiday apartment agency with an office in Barcelona, still has some availability, from compact little Barceloneta beachside studios (79 euros a night) to a renovated loft with a terrace located very close to Sonar's day-event venues (120 euros a night).

Sonar's 'By Day' events take place at the CCCB (Centre of Contemporary Culture) and MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art), both in the inner-city Raval district. Here visitors can experience video and mixed-media art and installations, see documentaries and films on modern music and pop culture and watch intimate DJ gigs in the open air.

At night the headliners of the programme take over Barcelona's trade fair buildings near Montjuïc where gigs last until about 6am. A handful of acts, which are more suited to a 'sit-down' setting, are held in other venues such as the state-of-the-art L'Auditori and the open-air Grec Theatre.

About halfway through its trajectory, Sonar decided to widen its musical offering to include acts beyond the 'dance music' genre (though this remains the festival's raison d'être). This year, the eighties glamrockers Roxy Music are a Sonar headliner, and other acts include, Dizzee Rascal, the Sugarhill Gang, LCD and The Chemical Brothers.

Tickets are available for either day or night events, or attendees can you can buy a global pass for both. They are available through Ticketmaster or Sonar's own website.
