Computers containing illegal pornography were seized during a routine investigation. Police seized evidence including a reported seven computers from the photographer's home office.

"This could have been easily prevented." Said, Phil Kuhlenbeck, owner of www.scrapitout.com, a data destruction service and computer disposal company. “It’s easy to find used computers in thrift shops, garage sales and even in the garbage.”

He goes on to say, “Data destruction is not as hard as it sounds, I recommend getting into the habit of making sure to remove all your electronic data, because you never know where your information will end up when you get rid of an old computer and what might be on a used computer you buy.”

A recent study of used computers bought online found that 311 of the 500 investigated contained private and confidential personal information such as tax records, medical records and banking accounts with passwords.

Kuhlenbeck emphasizes, “Scrap It Out never turns computers on, and we have a process where we can remove or destroy all data 100%. Your confidential data is safe with us because we never access it.”
