Hotels-London.co.uk - Let loose at London's Notting Hill Carnival

August 05, 2010 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
London's Notting Hill Carnival is known across the world as one of the biggest parties around, with all sorts of entertainment taking place throughout the event.

The organisers explain that over one million people come to the festival every year and it is the largest of its kind in Europe.

Although it started out as a tiny community celebration more than 40 years ago, the West Indian-themed event now attracts a great deal of attention and entices many revellers to Hyde Park hotels to join the fun.

It takes place on the August bank holiday weekend every year - meaning this year's edition will occur on August 29th and 30th - and features music, food, dancing and a memorable parade featuring floats and traditional steel drum bands.

The main parade has been confirmed to go ahead on the Monday, but there are other ones worming their way around the London district at separate points throughout the weekend.

It is free to attend this celebration but visitors should be aware that it gets very busy along the carnival route, which usually runs from Great Western Road, through Chepstow Road, Westbourne Grove and finally Ladbroke Grove.

Generous tourists could also think about volunteering at the event, with more than 40,000 people taking on roles for free at the occasion each year.

Visitors should also be aware that there may be disruption to the London Underground service during the festival.
