- Animadrid festival showcases world's top cartoons

August 25, 2010 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News can announce that Madrid's annual celebration of animated film gets underway in the suburb of Pozuelo de Alarcon next month.

Running from September 23rd to October 1st, Animadrid hosts screenings of new animations from around the world and serves as an international meeting place for members of the industry.

For people staying in Madrid hotels, the event is a chance to catch the latest cartoons and meet some of the people behind the most cutting-edge animation techniques.

In order to demonstrate that animation represents much more than "commercial children's cartoon films", the organisers have aimed to create a diverse and inspiring programme.

Animated films in genres ranging from comedy and science fiction to suspense and horror will be on show at the festival.

One of the main events at Animadrid is the international short film competition, which is open to makers of independent movies less than 45 minutes in length.

This contest carries a first prize of 9,000 (£7,400), with 6,000 for second place and 3,000 for third.

Pozuelo de Alarcon is situated about ten kilometres west of Madrid's Moncloa district and visitors can get there by taking a bus from the Moncloa interchange station.
