The Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce recently named Sandhya Markand business advocacy manager.

Markand will be responsible for overseeing infrastructure and environmental issues and serving as staff liaison to the Chamber’s Infrastructure and Environment Committee. She also will join the Chamber’s other governmental affairs specialists in working with elected officials in the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council and the Indiana General Assembly.

“With Sandhya on board, the Chamber’s business advocacy team will be even more effective in lobbying local and state lawmakers on issues that matter the most to our members,” said Sue Swayze, vice president of business advocacy for the Chamber.

Prior to joining the Chamber, Markand most recently managed her own public relations firm, Siyan Communications. She also served as a public information officer for the Indiana Department of Transportation and as special events coordinator and public information officer for the City of Indianapolis’ Department of Public Works. Markand also was a business development coordinator for R.W. Armstrong & Associates.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Indiana University.
