One of Australia's biggest annual racing events, the Magic Millions Carnival, will take place on the Gold Coast early next year.

Billed as the country's "greatest summer racing carnival", the event takes place at a variety of venues and will run between January 7th and 19th 2011.

The occasion kicks off with a series of days in which prospective buyers inspect yearlings - young horses of either sex aged between one and two years.

Some 200 yearlings were sold when the event first took place in 1986, but cheap accommodation Gold Coast customers heading to this year's edition can expect to see a significantly higher total of purchases.

Sales sessions open on Wednesday January 12th, but the highlight of the carnival is the Magic Millions Raceday on Saturday 15th.

Crowds will descend on the Gold Coast Turf Club for the occasion to watch nine races over the course of the day, culminating in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in which A$2 million in prize money is up for grabs.

A range of ticket options are available for people staying in Gold Coast hotels at the time who are keen to watch the big day, with prices starting at A$45 for the Party in the Paddock package. The spectacle gets underway at 10:00 local time.

For more information on this event, visit the Magic Millions Carnival website or contact the organisers on (+61) 7 5504 1200.
