Tropical north Queensland is the perfect place to spend Australia Day 2011, with plenty of entertainment planned at Cairns Esplanade.

Organised by Cairns Regional Council with a little help from the team at local radio station 102.7 Zinc Fm, a packed program has been created to celebrate January 26th.

People staying in Cairns hotels for the occasion can head down to the Esplanade from 12:00 local time to enjoy the fun and games, with some authentic Aussie BBQ food due to be served between 13:00 and 15:00.

An array of entertainment and activities is planned for cheap accommodation Cairns guests and other visitors to get involved with from 14:00 to 16:30, after which the crowds will gather to hear some live music.

Locals and tourists alike will be hoping to enjoy the line-up, which this year boasted the likes of Cairns band Vikarious and 2005 Australian Idol winner Kate De'Araugo, singer of number one single Maybe Tonight.

With the music due to wind down at 18:30, the audience will then be able to look forward to an outdoor movie screening, which is set to run from 18:45 until the event finishes at 21:00.

Perhaps best of all, this diverse range of entertainment is all completely free.
