West Australians will be heading to Perth next month for the Oz Concert, an important part of the state's Australia Day celebrations.

The event, which was held for the first time in 1989, will take place on January 25th 2011 at the Government House Gardens and will feature special performances from a number of dance and musical acts.

Among the groups set to wow the crowds - including people staying in Perth hotels for the occasion - are the Western Australia Police Pipe Band, Kavanagh Studio of Irish Dance and Chung Wah Dance, all of which have appeared at the show before.

Plenty of newcomers have also been announced, such as Tetrafide Percussion and Opera Debonair, with a full list of performers due to be announced closer to the occasion.

Tickets cannot be purchased - instead, more than 12,000 people from all over the state apply for the free passes, with 6,000 lucky men, women and children chosen to attend.

To be in with a chance of watching next year's show, prospective cheap hotels Perth guests must answer in 25 words or less what makes them proud to be from West Australia.

On the night, the proceedings are due to run from 20:00 to 22:00 local time.

For more information on this event, visit the Oz Concert website or contact the organisers on (+61) 8 9481 8066.
