NYC Joins Worldwide Drupal 7 Release Celebration

January 07, 2011 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
January 7, 2011 - The long-anticipated Drupal 7 was officially released on January 5, 2011. In observation of this, over 250 parties in 90 countries will take place on Friday, January 7th, and New York City is certainly no exception.

This sold-out, free event is hosted by Treehouse Agency, ThinkDrop, and Growing Venture Solutions. It features guest speakers from enterprise-level organizations leveraging the Drupal platform, several Drupal-related raffle items including a "Killer Prize" — registration for the upcoming Do it with Drupal conference from Drupal training firm Lullabot — and video streaming with other Drupal 7 parties across the country.

The event takes place at Klimat, and additional sponsorship is provided by CivicActions and Packt Publishing.

Drupal 7 marks a major milestone for the Drupal platform. The new version features an easier-to-use, more intuitive interface—a big selling point for those caught up in CMS indecision. Additionally, some top modules have been incorporated into the core platform, and a new database abstraction layer brings substantially enhanced performance and scalability options to the table.

For the enterprise-level organization, the improved performance and gentler learning curve for users of Drupal 7 reinforces Drupal's status as a top CMS contender for mission-critical systems.

The update is being met with enthusiasm from corporate users:

"Since moving to Drupal, the quality of life of our editorial staff has *greatly* improved. With all the usability improvements of Drupal 7, we can't wait to upgrade and make the people creating and managing content on The Economist online even happier."

Rob Purdie - The Economist

"As we prepare to relaunch Zagat.com on Drupal we are excited to explore the possibilities of Drupal 7, and look forward to contributing and being an active part of the New York Drupal community."

Jamie Clark & Igor Shindel - Zagat
