Calgary Police Service Crime Prevention Program Teams Up With Business Intelligence Organization.

The pilot project, known as the 'Builders Watch Portal,' provides an important new tool in the ongoing fight against crime in the city's new home development areas. The system is designed to track, maintain and report on any damage, vandalism or theft at these sites. GPS applications are also being integrated. Cst. Mark Dumont, the Calgary Police Service's Builders Watch liaison officer says, "As new home sales and commercial developments boom in Calgary, theft and damage at these sites is also increasing." The Builders Watch program — a partnership between Failsafe Canada, the Calgary Police Service (CPS) and the Calgary Region Home Builders Association — already tracks new-home property crime, reporting statistics and trends back to the new home builders and to the CPS. The Builders Watch Portal will make tracking and analysis even more effective by making it easier for builders to report crimes and criminal activities that may otherwise go unreported.

The Builders Watch Portal will complement current CPS reporting requirements.

It is anticipated that the introduction of the Builders Watch Portal will lead to an increase in reporting of crime at building sites, leading to more information being gained, improved data collection and ultimately, more efficient crime trend reports. This will lead to pro-active crime prevention and deterrence, and to improved service to the community. This leading-edge technology, developed by Failsafe Canada as part of the HomeNet Suite of services, is “a free service” to home builders.

Brad Henderson, Failsafe's V.P. Sales & Marketing and a Builders Watch Committee board member, says, "The Builders Watch application has allowed us to put into action a plan that will not only significantly increase damage and loss reporting, but dramatically increase information sharing and the capability for neighborhoods and builders to stay in touch."

The Builders Watch Portal easily maintains important database information and allows builders to develop their own crime prevention programs. It aids in connecting new home builders with the Calgary Police Service and local communities by providing crime prevention information online and encouraging active participation. The software incorporates an easy registration form for new members, along with a customized data entry form that includes all the necessary information about the loss or damage that the new home builder is reporting.

Benefits of the Builders Watch Portal include:

* Boosting crime prevention by connecting homebuilders, police and communities.

* Providing secure online access to community crime statistics.

* Encouraging community crime prevention participation.

* Growing with local community crime prevention programs.

* Enhances HomeNet’s Home Warranty Applications

The Builders Watch Portal was specifically customized to streamline New Home Builders' theft data and to centralize search activities into a manageable format so that police resources can focus on crime prevention. The HomeNet Suite of products can also help builders find suppliers and trades people, organize group contacts, and plan for resource distribution.
