- Enjoy world's richest horse race at Dubai World Cup

February 11, 2011 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News highlights horse racing fans will be heading to the UAE at the end of next month to enjoy the excitement of the Dubai World Cup.

Billed as the richest race in the world, a prize pot of $26.25 million (£16.3 million) is on the line in the showpiece event.

Plenty more cash is up for grabs in the other seven races on the card, including the Dubai Duty Free and Dubai Sheema Classic, both of which offer a total of $5 million.

With such large sums to be won, some of the best horses and riders from across the UAE and around the world are involved. Previous champions have included American "wonder-horse" Cigar, who triumphed at the inaugural World Cup in 1996.

The event will take place at the state-of-the-art Nad Al-Sheba racecourse on March 27th 2011, with the organisers expecting more than 50,000 people to turn up and watch the action unfold.

Entrance to a limited section of the recently constructed Meydan Grandstand is available for free, with admission starting at 14:00 local time.

Anyone looking for Dubai hotels close to the track can choose to book the Atlantic Hotel Dubai, which was voted the emirate's best visitor attraction at the 2009 Best in Dubai Awards.
