Artistic types from across New Zealand and further afield will head to Featherston this April to take part in the French Country Fair.

The two-day event, which will be held at the Tauherenikau racecourse on Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd April 2011, is a unique example in that it is a themed fair offering an all-encompassing experience for those in attendance.

Just an hour's drive outside the New Zealand capital of Wellington, the French Country Fair is intended as a fun family event where visitors can enjoy a little taste of France on the North Island with the help of some imaginative decorations and a carefully crafted ambience.

The fair will offer the opportunity to browse some artisanal wares as well as provide French themed refreshments, such as cheese, wine, and escargot, and entertainment including music.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up for the day, practice their French and get into the spirit of the event.

Lek Boonlert, head of marketing at Directrooms.com said: "The Wellington area offers a number of exciting events for visitors in the months of April and May including the French Country Fair at Featherston. This is on top of the usual tourist attractions available in the area. With so much on offer for visitors to Wellington, it is no surprise that a high number of visitors are expected in the New Zealand capital around this time. We would therefore advise people to book their Wellington hotels early in order to avoid being disappointed."
