INNOVATIVE CONCEPT DEVELOPED FOR “NO CHANGE” POINT OF SALE TRANSACTIONS
For decades new technological advancements have fanned rumors of the cashless society, only to fall short. However, a recent invention appears to be the real thing. Piggy Card, LLC, a California company, today publicly announced its “no change” monetary transaction process, aimed at revolutionizing the way modern society conducts business.

Everyone has loose change in jars, in ashtrays or on the bedroom dresser. Many individuals give away their coin change rather than deal with jingling in their purses or pockets. Others simply loose coins as they fall between the cushions of the living room couch, tumble under car seats or get vacumned away at the local car wash. Piggy card’s patent pending process, created by inventor Antoine Haber, is a point of sale system utilizing smart chip technology that essentially eliminates the need for coin change. When he purchases an item, the consumer simply elects to have the merchant place some or all of his change onto the piggy card. The piggy card is scanned by the merchant, and the change is automatically stored on the card. This information is also sent to a central data storage facility, which tracks each cardholder’s account balance. As the coin balance accumulates on the piggy card, the consumer has several options for his funds, including allowing the funds to accumulate, transferring the funds to a linked bank account, or ultimately using the piggy card as a type of stored value card, the same as cash, at any location that accepts piggy card. In addition to the clear convenience for the consumer, piggy card provides merchants with faster, streamlined transactions as a result of no longer having to manage and fumble with coins.

Piggy Card coo Alex Palabrica provides that the Piggy Card, “…is not a debit card with a new face”. Debit cards currently lack the feasibility of accepting coin change as a credit, where applicable Visa/Mastercard line fees and per transaction charges as high as 25 cents make a 45 cent credit for loose change onto a debit card unworkable. However, the technology behind the piggy card allows such transactions to be possible by avoiding these charges. Unlike debit cards, piggy card will use its own system linked to the internet and will not utilize the Visa/Mastercard systems which trigger high transaction fees for both the merchant and consumer.

Palabrica provides that piggy card is also being marketed to various casino groups. With many casinos replacing coin spitting slot machines, the piggy card system and technology can be utilized by casinos to manage coins and cash throughout the casino and hotel complex, cash out table players, and manage their perks and player promotions, among other uses.

Universal acceptance of piggy card will initially eliminate the use of coins and could eventually eliminate cash usage all together. This time the cashless society appears to be truly on the horizon.
