Affordable Contracting Revealed Green Home Remodeling at the April 2011 Atlanta Home Show

Homeowners are taking wind to latest sustainable features available on the market. The premier home and remodeling contractors, Affordable Contracting, recognizes the growing trend and recently showcased their green home remodeling products at this year's 33rd annual spring Atlanta Show, held April 1-3, 2011 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, GA.

The green home initiative taken by Affordable Contracting concentrates on using energy efficient materials and resource efficiency for making an even greater environmental impact. In booth 856, the Atlanta home contractors displayed their latest product; the green energy radiant barrier.

Radiant barriers are an energy efficient insulation product used to substitute non-environmentally friendly insulations such as styrofoam, fiberglass or rock wool. The green barriers are comprised of a reflective system that guards against heat from the surface rather than absorbing and controlling it, like many non-sustainable insulation products. The radiant barrier allows less material for insulating a home and also offers a permanent way to reduce energy costs.

U.S. homes that use non-efficient insulation methods average a loss of 50% to 75% of heat through the roofing system and basement. Of that, 65% to 80% is radiant heat during the winter months. During the warmer months, nearly 93% of heat gained in the house is radiant heat. Just a 1.5% change in moisture content in a fiberglass insulation, can be the cause of a 36% decrease in performance, something that green radiant barriers make up for.

Lance Smith, President and Owner of Affordable Contracting, explains that due to the overwhelming statics, green radiant barriers will soon grow in popularity in the next coming years.

"Much of the population is becoming more educated on the use of sustainable products in the home," says Smith. "Radiant barrier films are unaffected by humidity, something that both styrofoam and fiberglass insulations are not. The green barriers can shield residential homes with the same results, while making an environmental footprint, no matter the humidity or dryness."

The Atlanta home remodeling company also had a kitchen and bath booth, highlighting many future trends in bathroom remodeling.

"There has been a peak in demand for bathroom remodeling, especially the combination of neutrals and bright colors," continues Smith. "We also project that the use of quarts countertop surfaces and vessel sinks will be installed more and more in future bathroom remodeling projects."
