June 1, 2011 The latest threat from northern European volcanic ash risks disrupting the holidays and trips of thousands of UK tourists this summer, warns online car hire comparison website The award-winning comparator has called on members of the travel industry to enhance its communication channels to avoid repeating the mistakes of the 2010 volcanic eruption.

Gareth Robinson, Managing Director, comments: "Last year the eruption and subsequent volcanic ash cloud sent the travel industry into meltdown - with flights and trips cancelled plus hotels closing, car hire deals falling through and much more besides. The underpinning factor of people's annoyance was poor communication from travel industry suppliers - with lots of airlines, insurance providers and more not seeming to properly understand their own policies or terms and conditions."

"We are hoping that this year's volcanic ash cloud will have less of a negative impact on the sector as companies should really have learned from last year's problems. Suppliers, hotels, airlines and the like this year really need to have proper policies in place to manage cancellations or delays - and to make sure that their employees have the correct information at their fingertips to advise people."

Consumer magazine Which? ran a report recently which demonstrated problems caused by the 2010 volcanic ash cloud had not entirely been cleared up - with many travellers still awaiting compensation or reimbursement for money spent. this summer wants to help hire car customers as much as possible and asks any traveller who has reserved a rental vehicle via who has concerns or questions about the volcanic ash cloud to contact them through via their help section. is the leading car hire comparison site, comparing deals from up to 50 rental companies, including Alamo, Auto Europe, Budget, Holiday Autos and Sixt, in over 15,000 locations worldwide.
