Melbourne will host the Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) for the first time next month.

The event was formed after the organisers of the prestigious Melbourne and Sydney motor shows decided to join forces at the 2009 Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.

Under the agreement, the AIMS will be shared in alternate years between the two cities.

Having launched in Sydney in 2010, the event is set to debut in Melbourne between July 1st and 10th 2011.

A packed line-up of big-name exhibitors has been put together for the occasion, with the likes of Audi, BMW, Ford and Holden all set to appear.

Supercar fans will also be well-served, as Lamborghini has announced it will use the expo to show off its new flagship car, the Aventador.

In a statement, managing director of Lamborghini Melbourne Andrew Smith said: "The Aventador looks amazing in photographs, but this is nothing to seeing it in person."

As well as this high-performance motor, approximately 400 vehicles will be on display at the AIMS.

The event will take place at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Tickets cost AU$20, although early-bird rates are available to people who book before June 18th.
