Hedge Funds vs. Malaria announces the launch of Dunk Malaria

October 27, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Hedge Funds vs. Malaria is proud to declare that March 19, the first
Sunday of NCAA basketball tournament games during March Madness, is
Malaria Action Day (MAD). On MAD, Hedge Funds vs. Malaria will be
promoting Dunk Malaria I ( www.dunkmalaria.org )– a grassroots initiative that will attempt to recruit 99 million people worldwide to shoot a basketball shot for
malaria. The goal of the organizers of Dunk Malaria I is to make this
annual event the single largest one day participatory charity event in
world history. Doing so will shine the spotlight of worldwide
attention on the dire plight of the millions of children (90% of whom
are under the age of five and 90% of whom live in Africa) who die
from malaria each year and the half a billion people worldwide who are
afflicted by malaria each year. Connecting basketball and malaria is a
natural because basketballs are shot through basketball nets and
BedNets are the first line of defense against malaria,

"We believe that malaria represents the tipping point social issue for
Africa. We believe that since malaria is the easiest large scale
killer to eradicate, a full scale worldwide effort needs to be
mobilized to fight the mosquitoes that transmit malaria," said Lance
Laifer, co-Founder of Hedge Funds vs. Malaria. "We believe that an
African child's life is a life worth protecting with the same vigor,
intensity and passion as we summon up to fight wars and elect
Presidents (or cheer for our favorite college and pro sports teams)."

Between one million and three million children worldwide die from
malaria each year (more than aids and cancer combined) even though
malaria is a completely preventable disease that is transmitted by
mosquitoes. Malaria is also the worst killer of mothers on the planet.

Malaria, earth's largest killer ever, is the worst positioned and
marketed disease in world history. Over 95% of the people surveyed in
the United States about malaria are unaware that millions of children
are dying from malaria. There is no large-scale malaria lobby in
Washington. There is no organized large-scale malaria PR effort. There
are few relevant charitable efforts focused exclusively on malaria.
Governmental spending on malaria control initiatives worldwide are
inexcusably low (and difficult to audit). These problems are
exacerbated by the fact that malaria is normally subsumed under the
overall banner of world poverty and aids. Malaria needs to stand out
on its own. We believe that only by making malaria an independent
cause can it be eradicated.

Many people have told us that it is unrealistic to think that 99
million people will take a shot for malaria. To these people we say
that 99 million people is only approximately 33 times as many people as
kids who die from malaria each year.

Dunk Malaria will work as follows: Individuals can go to any basket
anywhere in the world on March 19, 2006 and take a shot. Please just
inform us that you are doing so. Best way to do so is to send an email
to dunkmalaria@gmail.com. If you are interested in having your shot
sponsored we will send you a sponsor’s form. A basket can be anything
from a regulation hoop to a kids basketball hoop to a nerf hoop.

We need volunteers to help us with this effort. Volunteers should feel
free to take the initiative to set up baskets on any street, parking
lot or living room anywhere in the world. We need volunteer captains,
coaches and leaders to help us: Captains will be responsible for
signing up twenty five people (including three captains) and one local
host location (a host location could be a restaurant, gas station,
school or other venue); Coaches will be responsible for signing up one
hundred people (including six captains) and one local host location.
Leaders will be responsible for signing up signing up five hundred
people (including ten captains) and three local host locations.

We will be setting up dunk contests, three point shooting contests and
foul shooting contests. If you are interested in hosting or organizing
one of these contests on March 19 please contact us at
vs.malaria@gmail.com

If you are a manufacturer who wishes to utilize the Dunk Malaria name
for clothing or any other product please feel free to contact us at
vs.malaria@gmail.com

If you are a store owner, business operator or manager please put a
basket up at your place of business – it can just be a kids basket –
the important thing is to get people to shoot!!!!

If you know Oprah please ask her to take a shot. If you know President
George Bush please ask him to take a shot. If you know Dr.J or Michael
Jordan or Magic Johnson or Bill Russell or Roger Clemens or Beyonce
please ask them to take a shot and if you know a child please ask that
child to open up his or her heart and take a shot for a child who may
be killed today by a little mosquito because the world isn't doing
enough to protect that child.

If your company is interested in being an official sponsor of Dunk
Malaria please contact us at vs.malaria@gmail.com.

If you are still reading this press release please feel responsible to
copy it into an email and send it to 10 of the people you are most
closely connected with and ask them to consider taking a shot to help
save the lives of the millions of children who die annually from
malaria.

Everyone in the world is invited to participate and help us protect
the kids of Africa.

As you may be able to tell we welcome ideas so please contact us at.
