Holidaymakers visiting Malaysia in September 2011 will be able to take in the historic Sarawak Regatta.
Taking place on Kuching Waterfront between September 15th and 18th, the event was originally established in 1872 by the region's European community and has remained a regular fixture throughout the post-colonial era.
The programme involves races that feature traditional longboats and dragon boats, as well as a host of other activities, such as greasy pole climbing and 'pillow fights'.
Last year's regatta was the first to be promoted as an international tourist event, being designated with the 1Malaysia symbol in order to bring in more foreign guests to add to the thousands of locals that regularly attend.
Those visiting the Sarawak Regatta can enjoy not only the sailing but also an accompanying trade and food fair, a cultural show and an exhibition of Malaysian crafts.
Tourists will be able to incorporate a trip to the event as part of a wider exploration of Sarawak, an area known for its many national parks, jungle areas and rivers.
Sailing enthusiasts can browse a wide selection of Malaysia hotels at, including the Hilton Kuching Hotel.
