– Petra Marathon to be held on 10 September 2011

August 13, 2011 (PRLEAP.COM) Sports News welcomes the 2011 September Marathon in Petra, Jordan. The Marathon is scheduled to start on 10th September at 06.30hrs. The early start is as a result of the extreme heat experienced in this region.

The Marathon starting line is set against the backdrop of the ancient Treasury Building that was built in 1,200 BC and has recently been hailed as one of the new 'Seven Wonders of The World.'

Race officials have given Marathon competitors a time limit of seven hours in which to complete the race, and anyone still trying to complete the marathon after this time will be collected by car. All runners will be given a medical at the finishing line and from there transport will be provided back to competitors' hotels. In recent years Petra has become a very popular tourist spot and there are cheap Petra hotels for marathon runners and their guests.

Most visitors from overseas travel to Petra via Amman International Airport and from there either take one of the modern air-conditioned buses or hire a taxi. It is quite usual for tourists to share the hire of a taxi and bearing in mind the early start of the Marathon, this might be the most efficient way of reaching the Marathon Start in good time.

Entries to the Marathon cost $250, this price includes registration, a medical team and a winner's certificate, as well as supplies that may be needed en-route. To enter Jordan visitors from European countries must have a visa, more details about visa and passport regulations can be obtained from the Jordanian Tourist Board.
