Flu vaccines at work could save companies up to £11.6 billion each year

Introducing Flu vaccines at work could cut staff sickness to save businesses a combined £11.6 billion each year. That's £476 per employee, according to a recent survey.

The survey carried out by the CBI found that employees take an average of 6.8 sick days each year, and one of the main causes of sickness is flu.

Now healthcare company Broadgate GP is offering businesses the chance to give staff Flu vaccines at work in a bid to reduce the number of sick days that they take.

Dr Hannes Uys, GP at Broadgate General Practice near Moorgate, wants to make it as easy as possible for employers to take advantage of the new scheme.

He said: "Although there are some groups of people who are more susceptible to flu, anyone can catch it.

"When it enters the workplace it can spread quickly – especially in a large company – and this can lead to increased employee sickness and lost productivity at work.

"For an employer to offer Flu vaccines at work they simply need to provide a dedicated room where the vaccinations can take place, we provide the rest."

Now is the perfect time to start inoculating against flu due to the change in seasons.

Dr Hannes Uys added: "Providing this service for employees can also increase their motivation as the company is seen to be investing in its employees' health.

"Not only will Flu vaccines at work reduce employee sick days but you may also see a boost in productivity."

Broadgate GP offers a range of occupation-orientated health services and can accommodate any special requests that businesses may have.

Its clinical team is one of the largest specialist groups of any independent clinic in the UK.
