Reallymoving.Com Q2 2011 Migration Monitor Report Highlights A Continued Exodus From London

October 04, 2011 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
The South East of England is bearing the brunt of a migration of homeowners away from the region and into smaller settlements away from the capital. That is the underlying trend from reallymoving.com's Migration Monitor report from Q2 2011.

An increasing number of people are choosing the South West of England to settle. Truro, Cornwall is now the most popular town to move to in the entire country with over 50 per cent more people looking to move to the area than move away from it. Meanwhile Devon's seaside town, Torquay is also high in the list of popular destinations.

There remains an exodus of settlers from all parts of the London area, with South West and North London particularly poor in terms of retaining residents who generally choose to move away from the aforementioned regions.

Rosemary Rogers, Director, reallymoving.com said: "The migration out of London continues. London is considered to be holding strong property values in the current market. This leads us to consider that London residents are cashing in on the high value of their homes, and moving into less expensive regions."

There are however two major UK cities that appear to buck the trend in terms of losing residents to other parts of the country. Both Belfast and Newcastle are now the stickiest regions in the UK, following the Q2 2011 Migration Monitor, indicating most people who live there choose to stay there.

Rogers added: "It is great to see Newcastle doing so well in retaining its local residents. According to the Land Registry, property values in Newcastle between April – June 2011 increased by over 10.3 per cent which is in great contrast to the nationwide average of -2.8 per cent."

Residents in the cities of Oxford and St. Albans are the most active movers, with 81 and 76 per cent respectively more moves per head of population than the national average – including moves both within and out of the areas.
