The latest change to the Google search platform, 'Search Your World', will make Google+ and social media in general an even bigger element when it comes to the development and execution of search strategies, according to PR, Social Media Agency Punch Communications.

'Search Your World' launched just after the New Year, significantly impacting search results and the way that they include Google+ content within search results. Whilst some commentators have indicated that these changes make it look as if Google is forcing Google+ on its search users, Punch has argued that this heralds a new era in social search given that Google is unlikely to alter its decision regarding the integration of Google+.

Alex Smith, an account manager at Digital PR agency Punch, said: "We always knew that Google+ would eventually lead to search engine results that were customised for each individual depending on the preferences of their extended network of contacts. However, I think many may have been taken by surprise by the aesthetics and extent of the changes that arrived in the shape of Google's 'Search Your World'.

"What is clear is how Google sees social search moving forwards and that Google+ is going to be a big part of it. As such, it's important that any brands looking to execute an extensive search and linkbuilding strategy have a clear plan in mind for how to integrate Google+ into that approach, since without it many opportunities could now be missed."

Some brands have already started to see the benefit of 'Search Your World', with Google+ pages appearing regularly within search results for those Google+ users who have already added those brands to their circles. Punch has also indicated that brands must make certain they make the most of this added visibility by providing users with the most engaging page possible, ensuring users continue to return and reshare the content they find, encouraging further growth.
