Bali will play host to Indonesia's first international full marathon in more than 20 years when the BII Maybank Bali Marathon 2012 takes place this April.
Organised by the Bank International Indonesia, the event starts and finishes at the Bali Safari and Marine Park on April 22nd and will feature a combination of flat roads and rolling hills along the route.
Professional runners and members of the general public will both be taking part in the race, which is focused on the theme of "Push Your Limit" and will challenge participants to fight to reach their personal goals.
As they run, athletes will be able to see iconic Bali landmarks and traditional dance performances, thus helping to improve the island's appeal as a tourism hotspot.
Various categories are open to participants, including full and half-marathon events, a relay race, a 10 km run and a children's sprint, with the first races getting underway at 05:00 local time.
Tickets range in price from $10 (£6.30) for the kids' run to $180 for the marathon relay.
