- Experience Edinburgh's Beltane Fire Festival

March 24, 2012 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
The Beltane Fire Festival returns to Calton Hill in Edinburgh next month, when thousands of people will gather to celebrate the start of summer.
Taking place on Monday April 30th this year, the event is a revival of an ancient Celtic fertility festival that has been taking place since the mid-1980s.
It features a dramatic procession based on the Scottish and Irish pre-Christian festival of Beltane, during which various characters from ancient mythologies are brought to life.
The event is known across Scotland for its intensity and colour, with the atmosphere enhanced by fire and processional drumming.
Approximately 12,000 people head to Calton Hill to see the four elements of nature - earth, air, fire and water - brought together in spectacular fashion.
Tickets for the festival can be purchased in advance for £5 at several venues in Edinburgh, while a limited number will also be available on the night for £8.
People heading to the festival can browse a large selection of Edinburgh hotels at, including the Albyn Townhouse.
This four-storey Victorian townhouse is within walking distance of many of the city's main attractions.
For more information about the event, visit or contact the ticket office on 0131 473 2000.
