Artists and performers from around the world will be travelling to Macau in May in order to take part in this year's Macau Arts Festival.

Commencing on May 1st 2012, the 23rd annual event will include a total of 33 performances and programmes that will thrill, delight and surprise audiences, while helping to raise the profile of the local arts scene.

This year, the three core disciplines of theatre, music and dance will be complemented by a range of other attractions, including Chinese opera, acrobatics, multimedia work and visual art.

Highlights include a new version of the Chinese classic Su Wu the Shepherd, an appearance by the US-based Mark Morris Dance Group and performances by two local orchestras, with a repertoire ranging from Chinese folk music to anime and videogame soundtracks.

Other attractions include three large-scale art exhibitions, family shows and a range of different talks on various elements of the festival, offering plenty to interest artists and fans alike.

Entry to see certain performances is completely free of charge, while for ticketed events, visitors can claim discounts by booking to see multiple performances together.

Arts enthusiasts can choose from a huge selection of Macau hotels at AsiaRooms.com, including the Sofitel Macau.
