UNITED VAN LINES TRANSPORTS 1,300 BACKPACKS TO HURRICANE-STRICKEN GULF REGION

ST. LOUIS – A-Mrazek Moving & Storage, a St. Louis-based United Van Lines agent and the official movers of the St. Louis Rams, stepped in to donate its services and deliver more than 1,300 backpacks to Jackson, Miss. The special delivery was designated for hurricane victims in the Gulf South Region as part of the Backpacks for Hope Campaign.

On Sunday, Oct. 30, the St. Louis Rams and the Marshall Faulk Foundation joined forces with New Orleans Saints Safety Steve Gleason’s One Sweet World Foundation and Athletes Making a Difference to collect new backpacks, school supplies and books for children displaced due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Backpacks and supplies were collected at the Edward Jones Dome prior to Sunday’s game between the Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“One of the most rewarding moments of this event occurred when I explained our mission to a homeless man searching for empty cans near the stadium. He shared that he had lived in New Orleans for three years and he too, felt the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The man walked away, returning 10 minutes later with a backpack he earned as a reward for filling out a credit card application, which he quietly placed in our collection container. His effort was truly touching. A less fortunate man with no monetary means found a way to give,” said Vinnie Rodgers, vice president of sales at A-Mrazek.

The collection from St. Louis will contribute to the nationwide Backpacks for Hope project initiated by Saints’ Gleason and his One Sweet World Foundation. More than 250,000 children have been affected by the hurricane, and these backpacks and school supplies will positively impact the lives of children in the Gulf South Region.

In addition to transporting backpacks to Mississippi, A-Mrazek has donated man power and transportation to several Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, working in coordination with the St. Louis Christian Center, Energizer and the Humane Society of Missouri.
